8/1 Coupon Inserts

What an awesome weekend for some of you that are just starting out!! This weekends paper will have FOUR inserts in it!! 1 Smart Source, 2 Red Plum and a P&G!! It is also awesome for those of us that aren't just starting, but still..lol So be sure that you are buying your newspaper(s) this weekend! There are already some great coupons in the paper this weekend! Be sure to try and find the cheapest place to buy your papers!

For me this weekend the papers are well worth it. I spent a total of .98 for 5 papers (local) so far and I already saved $20 with those five papers. I am telling you it is WELL worth the investment.

The .50 Crest coupons are in this weekend's P&G also, so that means for those of us with a Kroger more free toothpaste...There's another $1 savings per paper. I'm telling you guys you will save SO MUCH MONEY!!!

Have fun everyone!!

Gillette Razors at Kroger

I put this in my transactions, but I wanted to give it it's own post. There were a TON of Gillette Fusion razors marked down at my Kroger today. There was a $4 coupon expiring today AND there is a $4 coupon in this weekends P&G!!! Be on the look out for these!

They had the Gillette Fusion Gamer razor for $4.19 and the Gillette Fusion Power razor for $4.69!!
I picked up only the Gamers today, but tomorrow when I buy my Tribunes I will be going right next door to Kroger after I sit in my car and cut out the coupons...lol and buying more if they have them!!

So if you look at it for every newspaper I buy this weekend I am saving $4 each right off the bat!!

Kroger Trip 7/31 #2

I broke my trips up today, because I didn't want to overwhelm the cashiers AND I was hoping to keep the tax lower..yeah right..lol Well after I saw the Gillette razors on Manager's special I was sitting out in my car before I did this one cutting all of the $4 Gillette razor coupons out of this weekends P&G rofl. The items that are part of the P&G sale will have * by them and the $1 already off of the price. Here's what I got:

5 Gillette Fusion Gamer razors $4.19 ea - (5) $4 q's = .19 (there were still a TON left!!)

2 Gillette Body Wash $1.99* - $2 q & bogo q (this cashier took $4.29 off!!) = free + $2.31 overage!

1 Febreze Air Effects $1.50* - $1 q & $1 e coupon = free + .50 overage

1 Suave Professionals Shampoo & Conditioner in one $1.99 - free q = free

1 Dawn Dish Soap $1.49 - .25 q doubled & .50 e coupon= .49

1 Febreze Warmer $3.09 - $3 q = .09 (this coupon is in this weekends paper!)

Total: $.86 ($3.35 tax!!!!) I didn't even realize the coupons would cut into the tax!!!

Total savings: $57.02 or 104% woooooohoooooo :)

Kroger Trip 7/31 #1

I had to go to Kroger today there were a TON of coupons expiring today that went along with the P&G sale. The way the P&G sale works, is you buy 4 participating items and you get $4 off. So the prices below are after the $1 is taken off. I will put a * by the P&G sale items. Here's what I got:

4 Olay Regenerist Cleanser $4.58* -(4) $3q = $1.58

1 Olay Regenerist Cleanser $6.64* (I grabbed the wrong one..*sigh*) - $5 q = $1.64

5 Various Olay Cleansers $4.58* - buy cleanser get one free q's = free +$5 overage (due to them still taking $1 off for P&G sale)

2 Gillette Fusion Gamer Razors $4.19 (manager's special!!) -(2) $4 q = .19

2 Gillette Body Wash $1.99*- $2 q & bogo q (-$2.99) = free + $1.01 overage

1 Pampers Wipes $2.17 - $2 q = .17

2 Crest toothpaste $1 - (2) .50 q's doubled = free

1 Safeguard Hand Soap $1 - .50 q doubled & .50 e coupon = free + .50 overage

1 Tidy Cat Litter $2.75 - $1 q = $1.75

1 Hartz Cat Flea Collar $3.99 - $1 q = $1.99

Used $5 Catalina

=$7.82 (6.08 is tax) my goodness I wish I didn't have to pay tax!! LOL

Total Savings: $98.82 or 98% PLUS the Olay qualifies for the $20 rebate!!! (and maybe the $10 I have to look) So either way this is a big money maker!!

Walgreens Trip 7/31

Well I had a $5 RR that was expiring tomorrow. Since I probably won't have a chance to get to Walgreens tomorrow (see last post lol) I decided to just go there and use it today. I decided to buy mostly newspapers with it. My local paper didn't even have a Smart Source again, but it has the P&G and that is all that matters to me!! :) Here's what I got:

4 Newspapers .75 ea

1 Paper Mate 30 pk Mechanical pencils .99 (the regular price for these is over $8!!)

1 Crayola colored pencils 12 pk .99 (w/in ad q)

1 Folder .09 (needed a filler I was .02 short)

- $5 RR
=$.23 (.16 is tax)
Total Savings: $15.70

My Major Mess Up

Well I just had to share with everyone my big mess up I did. As some of you know I was ticked off at my landlord not to long ago (still am, but that's neither here nor there lol). Well I decided I was going to mail the rent this month instead of bring it down. So I mailed it a couple of days ago. Well today out of the blue I was thinking about the bank accounts (I have weird random thoughts..lol) we have 3 different ones. One is our main local bank, one is our old one that we hardly ever use and then the ChaCha one. Well I realized today that I wrote the rent check with the account that we never use. It has like $11 in it!! So I called the landlord and asked if she deposited it yet...she did..yesterday. AHHHHH!!! To make it even worse the closest branch of the bank is 1.5 hours away. Luckily they are open tomorrow so we will be driving 1.5 hours JUST to deposit the money. I'm so bummed, because I signed up for a shift tomorrow and there are SO many stores around that bank..I mean the bank is IN a Meijer's!! That really sucks! So I will have to just drive there and back 3 hours round trip for my stupid mistake. :( I know you guys probably don't care, but I just thought I would share..lol

7/25 Coupon Inserts

I just wanted to let everyone know there should be two inserts in your paper tomorrow. The Red Plum and the Smart Source. BUT there is one thing that comes in your newspaper that you may just throw away...but you shouldn't! The Parade Magazine actually has coupons in it sometimes! This weekend is one of those times. I know some areas don't get the Parade, but you get other types of these magazines. Be sure to always check them before you throw them away. The same goes for any kind of magazine you get. Look for coupons! You never know where you will find them!

Here are the coupons in this weekends:

$1.00 off any one Olay Facial Moisturizer or Facial Cleanser (excludes Trial size) exp 8/31/10

$3.00 off any Bausch & Lomb Soothe eye drops exp 9/30/10

$.50 off any Walgreens brand over the counter medication exp 7/31/10

Remember coupons can be regional. Which means you may get different coupons in yours than is in mine or they may be different values. I saw on another site that someone had a $2 off Celsius coupon in their Parade, but it is not in mine.

Filing Method example

Alright I just wanted to show a picture of what I meant for the filing method I described in a previous post. This is a very simple method for people that don't have a lot of time or just want to get the posted deals. All you do is write the date and type of insert on a manila folder (or whatever you want) and file it away. Now you can wait until you see a deal posted on a website or you can use a coupon database such as coupontom.com to find out what insert a coupon you need is in.

As you can see from my example that is the Smart Source from May 9 2010. So if I was on a site and I saw a coupon from 5/9 SS I would know to pull out that folder and cut the coupon out. I included a picture of the actual insert side. I know you can't read it, but the date is on there in real tiny writing if you ever find one you didn't file.

I hope the pictures help! :)

Walgreen coupon examples

Alright I already showed you what the Walgreens register rewards look like, but there are other kinds of Walgreen coupons also. These are a picture of the actual Walgreens ad and the Walgreens monthly coupon book. At the bottom of the ad you can see what the in ad coupons look like. The nice thing about Walgreens is you can stack coupons. You can use an in ad coupon, a walgreens coupon book coupon AND a manufacturer's coupon all together on ONE item!! That doesn't happen that often, but when it does you can. Here is an example of how you can stack the coupons.

You see the in ad coupon that makes the Dawn dish soap $.99 ea. Well there is a $.25 manufacturer's coupon. So when you use both of them together it makes the Dawn $.74

The nice thing with Walgreens coupons is you only need ONE Walgreens coupon per order. Even if you bought 3 Dawn dish soap for example you would need 1 of the in ad coupons, but 3 of the manufacturers coupons.

I hope that helps. Remember if you have any questions email me or leave a comment!!

Coupon examples

Alright these are some pictures of the various kinds of coupons you can find in your store while you are shopping. So be sure to keep an eye out while you are shopping. You never know when you will come across a great coupon! Even if there isn't a good deal for it right now pick it up! Save it for a sale!

1. Tearpad coupon~these coupons are on a pad. These can be anywhere..on a shelf, display etc.

2. Peelie~These coupons will be on the product themselves. These are technically meant to be used for that product when you buy it. Some people will go and take all of them off when they see them. I don't do this, but I will keep my opinions to myself on that issue. If you want to do it that is up to you. Sometimes you will have these on hand if you bought the item, but you had a better coupon then the peelie. That is how I usually have them.

3. Blinkie coupon~these are the coupons that are in those black machines with the red blinking light. The ones where you take one and then another automatically comes out.

Now sometimes you will need the coupons right when you see them. Like the blinkie I used 2 of them tonight when I found them for the Kraft cheese. I usually pick up the ones I see and then just add them to my binder when I get home.

Catalina coupons

Alright more picture examples. These are pictures of the coupons that come out of the catalina machines next to the cash registers. These are just so you can see what I mean when I reference them. I will explain them from top to bottom.

1. Walgreens Register Reward~these will print out at the end after you pay. Register rewards are very confusing. I will have to make a separate post just for these! The main things to remember with these is if 1. you purchase the same item you got the register reward for another will NOT print. 2. You can only do one per transaction to get the register reward. So let's say if you buy toothpaste and it gives a register reward, if you buy 2 toothpastes in one order you will only get 1 register reward. I will explain these more later.

2. Catalina coupon~these usually print while your items are being rung up. These are usually just random coupons you will get for purchasing certain items. Sometimes it will be from a competitor company and sometimes it will be from the same company. These are manufacturer coupons so they cannot be stacked.

3. Catalina or OYNO(on your next order)~These are the coupons from the catalina deals I mentioned in a previous post. These are for buying certain items you get a coupon for money off of your next order. They can be used on anything you want or you can use them to roll and keep getting more. For instance this one is from the Kraft deal. So I can go buy more Kraft cheese and use this coupon to get $5 off the order and another $5 coupon will print at the end.

Newspaper Insert Examples

Alright I know some people are visual learners (myself included) so since I can't just come over to your house and show you things I decided to take some pictures of the things I have all over..lol..so that way when I talk about them you will know what I mean. This post is for the newspaper inserts. As I mentioned before there are four different kinds of inserts you can receive in your newspapers. Smart Source (SS), Red Plum (RP), Proctor & Gamble (P&G) and General Mills (GM). The Smart Source and the Red Plum are the most common ones. For instance this weekend you should have one of each (RP &SS) in your Sunday paper.

So with the picture above left to right top to bottom you have the P&G insert then the General Mills then Red Plum and last Smart source.

I hope that helped! :)

Coupon Abbreviations & Terms

Alright a lot of couponing sites use abbreviations. I am going to try to remember them so it won't just look like gibberish..lol These are a few I use. Every site you go to should have a more extensive list if you need it.

q=coupon
cat=catalina (coupon that prints out from the machine by the register)
SS=Smart Source
RP=Red Plum
GM=General Mills
RR=Register Reward
B1G1 or BOGO= Buy one get one
FAR=Free After Rebate
MIR=Mail In Rebate
OOP=Out Of Pocket
WYB=When You Buy
YMMV=Your Mileage May Vary (it worked for me, but it may not work everywhere)
TMF=Try Me Free
Peelie= those coupons on products like a sticker
Blinkie=the coupons that come out of the little machines at the grocery store with the blinking red light
Tearpad=the coupons you find around stores, grocery stores etc that are on pads where you can just rip the coupons off.
ECB=Extra Care Bucks

If you think of anymore leave a comment. It's late and I'm tired..lol. If I put anything you don't understand be sure to ask!! You can always email me!

Couponing Starting Out

Alright I figured one of the ways to post some tips is to list some questions and answers. If you have any other questions be sure to post in the comments. One thing you should do when you are starting out is to make a junk mail email. When you are signing up for freebies, printing coupons etc they will ask for your email. You don't want to overload your regular email with all of the junk! It is a good idea to always sign up for the newsletters etc though, because they will email you printable coupons!! Ok on to the questions.

How do I get coupons?

The first and best way to get coupons is to buy the Sunday paper. It is suggested to buy as many papers as there are people in your household. This is completely up to you though. It all depends on if you want to have a stockpile or just pick up a few deals. The more coupons you have the more things you get. Be sure to find the place with the best deal for the newspaper (here we have The Dollar Tree. The Chicago Tribune is only $1.00 there.) Buy the paper from the biggest city in your area. All sunday coupons are not the same. Different papers get different coupons and the paper from the larger city will have the best coupons. It is so worth it to buy the newspaper!! You will make back the investment over and over.

How do I organize the coupons?

There are so many different ways to organize them. You have to find the method that is best for you. I am sure that you will change your method as you go. Most people start out with an accordion coupon holder. Here are the two most popular methods:

Binder Method~I will try to explain this the best way. With this method you take a three ring binder, baseball card plastic holders, dividers etc. You can customize it to your liking. This is the method I use. You can choose whatever categories work for you. Then you put the plastic baseball holder pages in between the dividers. File each coupon into the pockets. The way this works best is because when you are at the store with your binder and you come across an unpublished deal you will have your coupons with you. They are easy to find this way also. Check out pictures of mine here.

Filing Method~This is a great way to do it if you don't have a lot of time for cutting and organizing. With this method you will definitely need to use online sites and/or a coupon database. The way this works is when you get your Sunday paper you take out your inserts and place them into a file folder. Write the date on the folder. You can separate the inserts or just put them all in the folder together. Then when you are on a site and they are listing the deals almost all of them will post the date and type of insert the coupon came from and you can just go into your file and cut the coupon out.

What kinds of inserts are there?

The Sunday paper will include any or all of the following inserts: Smart Source(SS), Red Plum(RP), General Mills(GM) or P&G. Most Sundays you will have one Smart Source and one Red Plum. Every weekend is different though. You can find a coupon preview for 2010 here. Here is an example of a current deal:

Revlon Nail Clippers $1.42

Use the $1/1 coupon from the 7/18 SS
Final cost only $0.42!

So if you are doing the binder method you would go under whatever category you would place nail clippers and pull out your coupon. If you are using the filing method you would open your July 18th folder and cut the coupon out of the Smart Source.

There are so many other tips, but I don't want to overwhelm in one post. If you have any questions you would like answered..leave a comment!

Couponing Tips

There are a few lovely ladies from work who want to learn how we do this so I am going to be posting some tips and information for all the Coupon Queens in Training :) When I post the tips if you have anything to add or any questions please post them in the comments. I'm going to be posting them all throughout the night and the following days. I figured it is easier to post it on here then to email everyone! lol That is a lot of typing and frankly I am lazy..lol Plus they will be here for anyone who may stumble upon us. :) This one I am just going to post some of the websites I use.

Hip2Save~This is a blog where a ton of deals and freebies are posted daily. Lots of great information.

Afullcup~This is my favorite place of all for couponing. The reason this is my favorite is it is just a site FULL of information on anything and everything! You could spend days reading! Plus it is a forum type site where everyone can post the deals they find! There are shopping lists, coupon database..so much!

SaveMomsWay~This is Jackie's site..lol..of course it's one of my favorites :)

Some coupon printing sites:

Coupons.com~TONS of printable coupons...changes daily

Redplum.com

Smartsource.com

E coupons
These are coupons that are added to your shoppers rewards cards. These can be stacked with paper coupons. The bad thing with these is you can never be sure they will come off. So I always load them and just consider them a bonus if they come off.

Did you hear.........

KMART DOUBLES ARE BACK!!!!! 7/4-7/11!!!!

See what stores are included here. I'll have to post what deals I see! Good luck everyone! I hope you find some great stuff! This one is suppose to be Health and Beauty items only.

Yay!!!! :)

Edit: (thanks for the reminder Ruby!)

One more very important detail I forgot..I was just so excited lol. You will have to have a Shop your way rewards card to take advantage of doubles. Give this to the cashier BEFORE they start scanning or the coupons won't double. If you don't have one yet..don't worry you can print a temporary one here. You can only double 5 per transaction so if you have to drive far it may not be worth it. Last doubles they said 5 per day, but they let you break up your transactions to 5 and do as many as you want. We will see how it works this time.

They will double coupons up to and including $2. I have heard that anything you CAN'T eat will be included! I'm not sure how the registers know not to double for food, but this is Kmart so we take what we can get! lol

There are a LOT of $2 coupons out there! I have been printing a few. Whenever doubles are coming up I start printing a lot! I will try to make a list of some of the higher value coupons to watch out for. Sunday I will be going over there so I will start posting some of the deals I see. If anyone goes be sure to leave comments so everyone knows what to watch for!!
